This interactive course will equip participants with the skills needed to build a basic Moodle course.  The course covers:

  • Understanding the Moodle course framework and user profiles. 
  • Adding content through labels, pages and books. 
  • Producing and uploading video and narrated PowerPoints. 
  • Building and engaging in forum discussions. This will involve engaging in extensive written discussions in online forums.
  • Building interactive H5P presentations with questions.
  • Building engaging quizzes, assignments, choice polls and feedback.

As well as course content participants will use their skills to build resources and activities in a practice course and will discuss their experiences with the other participants and the facilitator.  This course should take around 3-8 hours a week over a four week period. Within a week you can work at your own pace and in your own time, however you must finish each weeks assignments within the week as per the course timetable below.

There are only 2 optional live video conference calls during this course. A poll will be taken to choose the most suitable time for the participants. These are fixed time events. All other course components can be done in the participants own time as long as they are completed by course deadlines as stated in the course timetable below.

Course Requirements

  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Up-to-date computer and smart phone.
  • Reliable internet connection.
  • Access to a free “Youtube” account or the willingness to open an account.
  • 3-8 hours per week. Actual time depends on your IT skills and learning speed. Able to complete tasks and assignments by required times each week (Wed, Thu & Fri) see course timetable below.
  • Access to Zoom video conferencing app. An optional zoom meeting will be arranged during weeks 2 and 3 in consultation with participants. Time will be advised.
  • Commitment to learn, engage in online discussions and complete assignments. This course includes several online written discussion forums in English so you need to be ready and able to read and write forum posts.

Week 1-Complete the course work for week one.
-Edit user profile by uploading a profile picture, editing their city and time zone.
-Make a label, page and book in Moodle that include, text with different formatting and images.
-Add a URL link to another webpage into a Moodle course.
-Use the file picker to upload and insert different kinds of files into a Moodle course.
-Choose 2 other participants who you will review.
-Read the article “Seven key principles of successful interactive learning” and write a response to two of the factors.
-Build a forum activity in Moodle and reply to the responses you receive.
-Review the practice course sections of the 2 participants you have chosen.  Write a response to their forum question and give them feedback on their practice activities.
Week 2-Complete the course work for week two.
-Create sample H5P presentation in the practice course.
-Choose 2 other participants who you will review.
 
Optional Zoom meeting will be arranged in consultation with participants this week
-Write forum post of your experiences creating a H5P module-View the practice H5P modules of two other participants.
-Write a comment as a reply to their post in the H5P forum.
Week 3-Do course work for week three
-Produce talking head video
-Produce narrated PowerPoint video
-Upload to YouTube and embed in Moodle practice course.
-Choose 2 other participants who you will review.
 
Optional Zoom meeting will be arranged in consultation with participants this week
-Write a forum post of your experiences creating these two videos.-View the videos of two other participants in the practice course
-Write a comment as a reply to their post in the Video forum
Week 4-Complete the course work for week four.
-Build a quiz in the practice course.
-Build an assignment in the practice course.
-Build a choice poll in the practice course.
-Build a feedback activity in the practice course.
-Write a forum post of your experience in producing these modules in the Assessment and feedback forum.
-Choose 2 other participants who you will review.
-Engage in the quiz, assignment, choice poll and feedback activity of two other participants.
-Write a reply with your comments to them in the forum
-Download the data from your two responses to your practice feedback activity as a spreadsheet.
-Upload the spreadsheet to the assignment in the main course.
-Complete the main course feedback
-Write a post in the conclusion forum
-Download Course Certificate
