This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to facilitate online Moodle courses.  By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Stated their understanding of the following concepts; learner centered/focused training, content and process, dialogue and interaction, deep strategies.
  • Identified different types of eLearning courses (self-study, group, synchronous and asynchronous).
  • Identified best practices for working with other facilitators in starting, running and finishing a course.
  • Demonstrated the ability to manage and engage in different types of forums. This involves extensive practice in several online written forums.
  • Demonstrated the ability to manually enroll participants, grade assignment tasks and download participant feedback.

Course Requirements

  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Up-to-date computer and smart phone.
  • Reliable internet connection.
  • 8-12 hours over two weeks. Actual time depends on your IT skills and learning speed. There are no real-time components of this course and you are free to work in your own time. However in order to facilitate discussion and interaction between participants we ask that you work to the course schedule (see below). We strongly advise that you plan to spend 1-2 hours each day working through the course and adjust your other commitments to allow time to participate in this course.
  • Basic understanding of key principles of adult learning.
  • Some experience of teaching or facilitating training for adults (can be in a face-to-face setting).
  • Commitment to learn, engage in online discussions and complete assignments. This course includes several online written discussion forums in English so you need to be ready and able to read and write forum posts.

Course Schedule

There are no real time components in this course (webinars etc). You are free to work in your own time as long as you finish each component within the time frame below:

Introduction:
Days 1-3
16-18 Oct 2023
– Introduction forum.
– What does it mean to facilitate?
– Different types of eLearning courses (self-study, group, synchronous and asynchronous).
– Preparing to facilitate a course.
– Write a paragraph in your words stating your understanding of the following concepts; learner centred/focused training, content and process, dialogue and interaction, deep strategies.
Starting a Course & Facilitating Forums:
Days 4-7
19-23 Oct 2023
– Starting a course discussion, video and quiz.
– Forum terminology and managing emails.
– Forum discussion introduction.
– Share your previous experience of discussions.
– Managing forums and forum strategies.
– Practice forums. (question, presentation, discussion).
Other Facilitator Responsibilities:
Days 8-9
24-25 Oct 2023
– Enrolments.
– Download, grade and comment on an assignment task.
– View and download participant feedback.
– Identify best practices for finishing a course.
Conclusion:
Day 10
27 Oct 2023
– Concluding forum.
– Participant feedback.
