Going out into the community can be a scary thing to do, especially when we have just arrived, don’t speak the language and don’t understand what’s going on. It seems much safer to stay in the classroom, but we know that we need to get outside into the community if we are going to learn about the culture and worldview of the people. Culture learning assignments can be helpful in giving us ideas for things to look for and do when we go into the community as well as structure and a scaffold to support our learning outside the classroom. This course is an introduction to culture assignments and explains what they are and how they work. It includes several basic sets of assignments designed for use in urban or rural locations.
